Monsoon Season is Here: Are You Prepared?

excessive rain waterMonsoon season is upon us. That means we are in store for heavy rains, possible flooding, thunder and lightning storms, strong winds, power outages, and more! But this probably isn’t new information for you. San Antonio usually sees some crazy weather during this season.  That being said, we want to be sure we do what we can to protect ourselves through monsoon season. Here are a few things you can do to protect yourself during monsoon season.

1. Protect Against Mold

Mold can be damaging to your home, harmful to your health, and dangerous in large amounts, especially for pets and children. It’s important to eliminate mold at the first sign of it. Avoid letting water pool anywhere, such as if you have a leak, and be sure to protect wooden furniture from damage. Speaking of protecting your furniture…

2. Protect Your Furniture

…Your furniture can take a huge hit during monsoon season. Leaks, flooding, ponding water, and heavy rains (for outdoor furniture) can all have a huge impact on your furniture and can even cause mold to grow on it. If you have a leak, be sure to move any furniture away from it and try to cover your outdoor furniture as best as you can to protect it. Replacing furniture can be quite expensive and a huge ordeal so it’s always a good idea to protect it during monsoon season.

3. Get a Roof Inspection

We haven’t hit the heart of the season yet, so it’s a good idea to have your roof inspected as soon as you can. Roof inspections will uncover missing shingles, weak spots, holes and damages, and other issues that may make your home susceptible to leaks during monsoon season. Get a qualified roofer to look at your roof so you can avoid these issues.

4. Repair Damage Right Away

Whatever this damage may be, it’s a good idea to repair it right away. Leaks, roof damage, mold, and anything else that might happen can all wreak havoc if left unattended. Getting it repaired quickly can minimize damages and costs.

5. Make Sure You’re Insured

If you know you live in an area where flooding is a huge issue, it’s a good idea to invest in flood insurance. Flood insurance can help you repair damages, replace things, and be prepared for the worst. Pan American Insurance offers flood insurance so you can be prepared for whatever monsoon season has in store for you. Call us today to learn more!
